| Defining and
renewing perceptions |
This new body of work is an extension of past work, it may be viewed
as another reassessment of our relationship with ‘nature' and
‘landscape'.
Through the act of walking in the Kwelera estuary and the East
Coast, small objects - mainly sticks - have been collected and
bound, indicating the passing of time, a meditation with nature and
the memory of a particular place.
These objects are hidden and revealed, bound and free, carved,
whittled, inlaid, stained and sealed. Simply made souvenirs at a
campsite, river, forest or in the studio, where the memory of the
found–objects' place occurs and is painted.
A fusion of the past and the present time occurs between the
objects, the drawn and painted objects, the atmosphere and the
spirit of place, defining and renewing perceptions about the
relationship between nature and culture.
Maintaining nature's balance of healing, of process and presence. |
